Ḥ ad ī th 43 Monthly Renaissance November 2021 According to al-Haytham ī and Ibn Ḥ ajar, Marw ā n ibn S ā lim al- Ghif ā r ī is matr ū k . The latter also adds that al-S ā j ī and others say that he fabricates narratives. 2 Ibn Ab ī Ḥā tim records: A ḥ mad ibn Ḥ anbal regards him to be laysa bi thiqah ; Ab ū Ḥā tim says that his munkar al- ḥ ad ī th jidda ṇ ḍ a‘ ī f al- ḥ ad ī th laysa lah ū ḥ ad ī thu ṇ q ā ’imu ṇ ; when Ibn Ab ī Ḥā tim asked his father if his narratives should be abandoned, he said: l ā bal l ā yuktabu ḥ ad ī thuh ū . 3 Ibn al-Jawz ī records: Al-Bukh ā r ī calls him munkar al- ḥ ad ī th while al-Nas ā ’ ī and al-D ā raqu ṭ n ī regard him to be matr ū k ; according to Ibn Ḥ ibb ā n he would narrate man ā k ī r from mash ā h ī r and would narrate from trustworthy narrators what is not sound and when this phenomenon increased, adducing from him was disallowed. 4 Al-Dhahab ī records: Ab ū ‘Ar ū bah al- Ḥ ar ā n ī says that he fabricates his narratives and Ibn ‘Ad ī is of the opinion that most of his narratives are not corroborated by reliable narrators. 5 Al-Fasaw ī says that he is munkar al- ḥ ad ī th ; it is not permissible to narrate from him and scholars do write his narratives only to know them. 6 Ya ḥ y ā ibn Ma‘ ī n says that he is laysa bi thiqah . 7 According to Ibn Ḥ ajar, Ṭ al ḥ ah ibn ‘Ubaydull ā h al-‘Uqayl ī is majh ū l . 8 Regarding Ya ḥ y ā ibn ‘Ul ā al-R ā z ī , Ibn Ab ī Ḥā tim records: according to Ya ḥ y ā ibn Ma‘ ī n, he is laysa bi shayy ; ‘Amr ibn ‘Al ī says that he is matr ū k al- ḥ ad ī th jidda ṇ ; Ab ū Salamah regards him to be ḍ a‘ ī f ; Ab ū Ḥā tim says that he is laysa bi al- qaw ī and that Wak ī ‘ has impugned him; Ab ū Zur‘ah says that there is ḍ u‘f in his narratives. 9 2.
