Refraining from Backbiting ﻦْ ﻋ ﻫﺮﻳْﺮة A¢ ن رﺳﻮْ ٰ ل ﷲ ﺻ d ٰ ﻋﻠ ﷲ A ﻴۡﻪ وﺳﻠ ﻗ ﻢ ﺎل ﺗﺪْروْ ن ﻣﺎ ﻟْﻐﻴﺒﺔ ﻗ ﻮْ ﺎﻟ ٰ ﷲ ورﺳﻮْ ﻟﻪ ﻋْﻠﻢ ﻗ ﺎل ك bْ— ذ ﺧﺎك ﺑ ْ ه ﻗﻴ bْ~ ﻤﺎ ﻳ ﻞ b¿ ﻳْﺖ نْ j ﺎن B ْ A ﻣ E× ﺎ ل ﻗﻮْ ﻗﺎل نْ j ﻓ ﺎن ْ ﻴ ﻘﻮْ ˆ ﻪﻣﺎ لﻓﻘﺪْ ﻏْﺘﺒْﺘﻪو نْ ﻟﻢﻳﻜﻦْ ﻓﻴﻪﻓﻘﺪْ ﺑﻬﺘﻪ Ab ū Hurayrah (rta) reported that God’s Messenger (sws) said: “Do you know what is backbiting?” The companions replied: “God and His Messenger know best.” Thereupon, the Prophet (sws) said: “Backbiting implies you talk about your brother in a manner which he does not like.” It was asked: “What do you say if [the fault] I mention is actually found in my brother?” The Prophet (sws) said: “If it is actually found [in him] you [are guilty of] backbiting, and if it is not found in him, then you [are guilty of] slandering him.” 1 2. Gentleness ٰ ﻋﻠ ﷲ Ad ﺻ Á ﻋﻦْ ﺟﺮﻳﺮٍ ﻋﻦْ ﻟﻨ ﻴۡﻪ وﺳﻠ ﻢ šْ› مْ ﻟْﺨ bْÎ مْ ﻟﺮﻓْﻖﻳ bْÎ ﻗﺎلﻣﻦْ ﻳ Jar ī r (rta) reported that the Prophet (sws) said: “He who is devoid of gentleness is in fact devoid of goodness.” 2 ﻦْ ﻋ ﺸﺔ زوْج – ﻋﺎ Á ﻟﻨ ٰ ﻋﻠ ﷲ Ad ﺻ  ﻴۡﻪ وﺳﻠ ﻢ ٰ ل ن رﺳﻮْ ﷲ ٰ ﻋﻠ ﷲ Ad ﺻ ﻴۡﻪ وﺳﻠ ﻢ 1.
