32 Monthly Renaissance January 2022 Ḥ ad ī th “ Sayyid al-Qawm Kh ā dimuhum ” Narratives Dr Shehzad Saleem In this article, we will analyze some narratives ascribed to Prophet Mu ḥ ammad (sws) that say that the leader of the nation is their servant. The following narrators report these narratives: 1. Anas ibn M ā lik (rta) 2. Zayd ibn Aslam 3. Sahl ibn Sa‘d 4. ‘Uqbah ibn ‘ Ā mir (rta) 5. Jar ī r ibn ‘Abdull ā h (rta) Their narratives are evaluated below: 1. Anas ibn M ā lik (rta) (1) ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎ ﺑﻮ ، ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎﺣﺒﺎنﺑْﻦ ”•]kْl ﺣْﻤﺪ ﻟْﻐ ، ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎﺣﻢﺑْﻦﻧﻮحٍ، ”´ْ ﺳْﺤﺎق ﻟْﺒﻠ ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎﺳﻠْﻢﺑْﻦﺳﺎﻟﻢٍ،ﻋﻦ ﺑْﻦ ﻟْﻤﺒﺎرك،ﻋﻦْ ﺣﻤﻴْﺪٍ،ﻋ ﻦْ ﻧﺲﺑْﻦﻣﺎ ﻟﻚٍ،ﻗﺎل : ﻗﺎل ٰ رﺳﻮل ﷲ; K ﺻ 9 / ٰ ﷲ; ﻋﻠﻴْﻪوﺳﻠﻢ 9 : " ْﺑًﺎ N¸ ْ ﻫﻢ Nh ﺳﻴﺪ ﻟْﻘﻮْمﺧﺎدﻣﻬﻢْ،وﺳﺎﻗﻴﻬﻢْ آ " Anas ibn M ā lik stated that God’s Messenger (sws) said: “The leader of a nation is their servant. He is the one who makes them drink and himself drinks at the end.” 1 Following is the schematic illustration of the isn ā d of this narrative’s variants: 1.
