Had ī th Studies 32 Monthly Renaissance May 2021 No direct jar ḥ or ta‘d ī l is available on A ḥ mad ibn Mu ḥ ammad ibn Mu ḥ ammad al-Khal ī l ī (d. 545 AH). He is mentioned without jar ḥ or ta‘d ī l by al-Dhahab ī . 55 Ibn al-Nuq ṭ ah mentions that Ab ū Sa‘d in his book Al-Ans ā b that al-Khal ī l ī would serve Q āḍī al- Khal ī l ibn A ḥ mad and that the latter was told that al-Khal ī l ī is shaykhu ṇ thiqatu ṇ . 56 One can clearly see here that the indirect mention of al-Khal ī l ī ’s trustworthiness is a very weak one. Mu ḥ ammad ibn Ism ā ‘ ī l ibn al-Fa ḍ l al-Fu ḍ ayl ī is actually Mu ḥ ammad ibn Ism ā ‘ ī l ibn al-Fu ḍ ayl al-Fu ḍ ayl ī (d. 534 AH). He is mentioned by al-Dhahab ī without any jar ḥ or ta‘d ī l . 57 IV Conclusion The questions raised on the text and chain of these narratives render them unworthy of being relied upon. __________ 55.
