Whenever Sa‘ ī d narrates directly from Ibn ‘Abb ā s (rta), he always specifies this by saying: ﺑﻦ q ﺣﺪﺛ ﻋﺒﺎس (Ibn ‘Abb ā s narrated to me) or ﺳﻤﻌﺖ ﺑﻦﻋﺒﺎس (I heard from Ibn ‘Abb ā s) ﺑﻦﻋﺒﺎس L¢4• أﺧ ( Ibn ‘Abb ā s informed me). When he narrates indirectly from Ibn ‘Abb ā s (rta), he either names the person in between eg. ﻣﺠﺎﻫﺪﻋﻦ ﺑﻦﻋﺒﺎس q ﺣﺪﺛ (Muj ā hid narrated to me from Ibn ‘Abb ā s) and ﻣﺔ W{ ﻋ q ﺣﺪﺛ ﻋﻦ ﺑﻦ ﻋﺒﺎس (‘Ikramah narrated to me from Ibn ‘Abb ā s) or does not name anyone at all and just says ﻋﻦ ﺑﻦﻋﺒﺎس 3.
