7 Monthly Renaissance February 2020 Qur’ ā nic Exegesis S ū rah al-Qa ṣ a ṣ Javed A ḥ mad Gh ā mid ī ﺑﺴۡﻢ ٰ ﷲ ﻟﺮَﺣۡﻤٰﻦ ۡ ﻟﺮَﺣﻴ ﻢ ﻃٰﺴٓﻢٓ ﴿ ١﴾ ﴿ ۡ ﺗﻠۡﻚَ ٰﻳٰﺖ ﻟۡﻜﺘٰﺐ ﻟۡﻤﺒ ٢﴾ ٰ/ وَ -,ۡﻋَﻮۡنَ ﺑﺎﻟۡﺤَﻖ 0ۡ ﻧَﺘۡﻠﻮۡ ﻋَﻠَﻴۡﻚَ ﻣﻦۡ ﻧَﺒَﺎ ﻣﻮ ﻟﻘَﻮۡمٍ ﻳﺆۡﻣﻨﻮۡنَ ﴿ ٣﴾ َ نَ -,ۡﻋَﻮۡنَ ﻋ ﻔَﺔً ﻣﻨۡﻬﻢۡ ﻳﺬَﺑﺢ َﺑۡﻨَﺂءَﻫﻢۡ B ﻵۡﻹَرۡضوَ ﺟَﻌَﻞَ َﻫۡﻠَﻬَﺎﺷﻴَﻌًﺎ ﻳَﺴۡﺘَﻀۡﻌﻒﻃَﺂ MN ﻶَﻹ P ۡ ٖ ﻧﺴَﺂءَﻫﻢ RۡSَ وَ ﻳَﺴۡﺘ َﺎنَ ﻣﻦَ ﻟۡﻤﻔۡﺴﺪﻳۡﻦَ ﴿ U V ﻧَﻪ ٤﴾ ﻟَﺬﻳۡﻦَ ﺳۡﺘﻀۡﻌﻔﻮۡ MَZَ وَ ﻧﺮﻳۡﺪ َنۡ ﻧَﻤﻦَ ﻋ In the name of God, the Most-Gracious, the Ever-Merciful. This is S ū rah Ṭā S ī n M ī m. 1 These are verses of a very clear Book. For the guidance of those who want to accept faith, 2 We narrate to you the accounts of Moses and the Pharaoh in all truth. (1-3) In reality, the Pharaoh had become tyrannical in the land of Egypt. 3 He had divided its inhabitants into groups. 4 He had harshly suppressed one of the groups; 5 he would fervently search 1. What is the meaning of this name? I have explained in detail my view about it while discussing verse 2 of S ū rah al-Baqarah. 2. The actual words are: َ ﻟﻘَﻮْمٍ ﻳﺆﻣﻨﻮْن . The verb in them expresses intention. It is a kind of admonition. At the very outset, the Qur’ ā n has stated that only those will be guided through this account who want to be guided. Those who have decided to live as blind and deaf will find no guidance in it. 3. In the succeeding verses, the Qur’ ā n has explained the nature of this tryanny. 4. Ie., while sitting on the throne of justice instead of administering justice, treating people equally and granting them equal rights, he had divided his subjects into classes. Thus some were granted perks and distinctions and others were humiliated by him through subjugation. 5. Ie., the Israelites who came to inhabit this land in the times of Joseph (sws) and now occupy the status of a large nation.
