Within a group, the s ū rahs themselves generally occur in pairs with regard to the subject discussed in them. Each s ū rah also has a specific theme which is the most comprehensive statement of its contents. In 1981, Isl ā h ī founded the Idarah Tadabbur-i Qur’ ā n-o Ha dith , which remained until his death (15 th December 1 997) the centre of his intellectual activities. A quarterly journal Tadabbur started publication in 1981 as its organ. He gave weekly lectures on the text of the Qur’ ā n . La ter, h e took up deep study on the principles of Ha dith and began teaching al-Mu’att ā ’ of Im ā m M ā lik in weekly sittings to a close circle of students and associates. After completing al-Mu’att ā ’ , he also taught some portions of Im ā m al-Bukh ā r ī ’s al- J ā mi‘ al-sah ī h . Besides the Tadabbur-i Qur’ ā n , Isl ā h ī authored a number of books in Urdu on various topics of Islam. They include Tazkiyah-i nafs (Purification of the Soul), Haq ī qat-i shirk-o tawh ī d (The Essence of Polytheism and Monotheism), Da‘wat-i d ī n awr us ka tar ī qah-i k ā r (Islamic Message and the Mode of its Preaching), Isl ā m ī riy ā sat (The Islamic State), Mab ā d ī tadabbur-i Qur’ ā n (Principles of Understanding the Qur’ ā n), Mab ā d ī tadabbur-i Had ī th (Principles of Understanding the Had ī th), Isl ā m ī riy ā sat mayn fiqh ī ikhtil ā f ā t k ā hal (Solution of Juristic Differences in an Islamic State) and Isl ā m ī q ā n ū n k ī tadw ī n (Codification of Islamic Law).
